Sri Lanka’s UNP, SLFP to meet ahead of no-confidence motion
ECONOMYNEXT – Representatives from Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s United National Party, President Maithripala Sirisena and his Sri Lanka Freedom Party members was due to meet Wednesday morning ahead of a no-confidence motion being debated in parliament.
UNP seniors and President Sirisena met in the late afternoon yesterday which was described by a UNP member as ‘positive’.
Following a late night meeting however a spokesman from Sri Lanka Freedom Party said the group had decided to call on the PM to resign ahead of the vote.
President Sirisena had reportedly told UNP seniors that some SLFP members wanted to abstain others wanted to vote against the PM and some wanted to support him.
The vote on the no confidence motion will be taken at 9.30 pm on April 04
