ECONOMYNEXT – State-run SriLankan Airlines has lost 24.8 billion rupees from April to July 2021, Finance Ministry report said, as the generally loss-making airline faced even more difficult times during the Coronavirus pandemic.
SriLankan had lost 58,066 million rupees in the year to March 2021.
In the four months to July the airline had carried 121,944 passengers compared to 166.969 for the whole of last year.
It had a seat factor or the ratio of passengers carried to available seat capacity of around 20 percent.
Airlines usually have a seat factor of 70 percent or above.
The airline had carried 29,443 tonnes of carg in the four months, compared to 56,406 tonnes of for the whole of the previous year. (Colombo/Nov29/2021)
