ECONOMYNEXT – A total of 11 COVID-19 cases were reported as at 6 a.m. this morning, the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 (NCOPCO) said.
Of these, nine were reported among the detainees from the Kandakadu Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre, a close contact of the Kandakadu cluster and the other a returnee from the UK.
With the new 11 patients, the total confirmed COVID cases in Sri Lanka has increased to 2,764 while the total number of PCR tests conducted has increased to 147,385 ,with 1,240 PCR testi carried out yesterday.
Seventeen patients have left hospitals after a full recovery, increasing the total number of recoveries to 2,094, the NCOPCO said.
A total of 52 Sri Lankans were repatriated last night and this morning. Four of them were brought back from Dubai last night, while 14 from Doha and 34 from Chennai India returned this morning.
All of them were directed to quarantine centres controlled by the armed forces upon their arrival, the NOCPCO said.
A total of 4,606 people are currently going through the quarantine process at 44 military-controlled quarantine centres.
Some 572 COVID positive cases were from the Kandakadu cluster so far, while 460 were found among the detainees at the Kandakadu Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre, including 64 staff members, 5 invited staff members and 43 close contacts. (Colombo, July 25, 2020)
