ECONOMYNEXT – Suresh de Mel, an entrepreneur and a agricultural engineer has taken over as Chairman of Sri Lanka’s Export Development Board from December 14.
He succeeds Prabhash Subasinghe who ended his one-year tenure earlier this month.
De Mel is himself and exporter and is founder of a fishing flies manufacturer. The firm employs 200 women in Tangalle, Ratnapura and Nugegoda, the EDB said.
He is also the Chairman of EcoWave (Gte) Ltd and EcoWave Travels, are working with 200 spice farmers in Moneragala and Ampara districts, promoting sustainable organic agriculture and responsible eco and agro tourism. (Colombo/Dec14/2020)
