Thirteen new COVID-19 patients in Sri Lanka; total cases up to 2,984
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka identified 13 new COVID-19 patients as at 6am today (27), the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPOC) said.
Ten of the new patients are detainees at the Kandakadu rehabilitation centre, while the three others are returnees from India and Maldives.
With the new cases, the total of confirmed COVID-19 patients in the island has risen to 2,984, with 153 active cases and 83 Individuals currently under investigations in hospitals.
As at 6am today, five patients returned home upon recovery, bringing the total recoveries in Sri Lanka to 2,816.
With the 10 new patients the number of patients reported from the Kandakadu cluster has increased to 639, out of which 518 are detainees, 67 are staff, five are invited staff members, 48 are close contacts and one is a close contact of the patient found from Welikada prison.
A total of 452 have recovered from the Kandakadu cluster while 177 are still undergoing treatment.
Over the past 24 hours, 169 returnees arrived in Sri Lanka, 157 of whom returned from Kuwait and 12 from Doha, Qatar.
NOCPOC said that all returnees will be directed to military-run quarantine centres.
The number of people in quarantine in 70 centres run by the armed forces has gone up to 7,386.
A total of 213,462 PCR tests have been done in the island so far with 1,780 PCR tests carried out yesterday. (Colombo/Aug27/2020)
