Tilak Marapana appointed foreign minister of Sri Lanka

ECONOMYNEXT – Tilak Marapana, who was forced to resign over a controversy related to a firm that was being investigated by police has been appointed Sri Lanka’s foreign minister, following the resignation of minister Ravi Karunanayake.
Marapana had taken oaths before President Maithripala Sirisena Monday, the president’s media office said.
Marapone, who was minister for law and order, was forced to resign over concerns that he will interfere in a probe on Avant Garde, a controversial security firm. A statement said the resignation was until the conclusion of the investigations.
In May 2017 he was re-appointed as minister for development assignments.
Marapone was a former attorney general of Si Lanka. (Colombo/Aug15/2017)
