Twenty-seven new COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka identified 27 new COVID-19 patients as at 6 am this morning, the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPOC) said.
Of the new cases, 23 were found from the Senapura Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre (East Kandakadu) while the other four are returnees from the UAE.
The total of confirmed COVID-19 patients in the island has now risen to 2,871 with 267 active cases; and with 14 patients returning home after recovering as at 6 am this morning, total recoveries has risen to 2,593.
The number of patients reported from the Kandakadu cluster has increased to 629, out of which
508 are detainees. Of the remainder are 67 staff members, 5 invited staff members, 48 close contacts and one close contact of the patient found from Welikada prison.
A total of 427 has recovered from the Kandakaud cluster while 202 are still undergoing treatment.
Some 43 returnees arrived this morning aboard two special flights from Doha.
NOCPOC said that all the returnees will be directed to quarantine centres controlled by the tri-
forces upon their arrival.
Meanwhile, 3,449 people are currently in quarantine in 39 military-controleld centres.
Some 172,972 PCR tests have been carried out in the island so far, with 1,310 testings conducted yesterday. (Colombo/Aug11/2020)
