Two including CEB contractor killed in accident while on duty
Two people, including a Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) contractor who had been clearing branches, were killed in an accident on Saturday (5) on the Kuruvita-Erantha road in Kuruvita.
According to the Police, the accident took place near the Eknaligoda ‘Walawwa’ where a lorry plying from Erantha to Kuruvita transporting a load of gas cylinders had hit a car going in the opposite direction and then collided with a group of workers who were clearing out branches on either side of the road also hit their own lorry which was parked under a tree. The workers had been on contract with the CEB.
The driver of the lorry in which the workers had come and a worker had succumbed to injuries on their way to the hospital. Police said the two dead are 40-years-olds from Dodamgoda and Rathnapitiya areas.
Police has taken the driver of the lorry with the gas cylinders into custody and further investigations are now being carried out by the Kuruvita Police.
