Two new COVID-19 patients found in Sri Lanka
ECONOMYNEXT – Two new COVID-19 patients, both returnees from the UAE, were reported in Sri Lanka as at 6am today, the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPOC) said.
The total number of confirmed COVID-19 patients in the island has risen to 2,902 with 136 active cases. NOCPOC said that with 79 patients returning home after recovering as at 6am today, total recoveries have gone up to 2,755.
Of the 629 COVID-19 patients found in the Kandakadu cluster, 567 have recovered.
The Kandakadu cluster includes 508 detainees, 67 staff members, five invited staff members, 48 close contacts and one close contact of the patient found at the Welikada prison.
A total of 387 returnees arrived in the country this morning, 364 of whom flew in from Doha, while 13 and 10 were from Dubai and the UK respectively.
NOCPOC said that all returnees were directed to quarantine centres run by the tri-forces upon their arrival.
Meanwhile, 5,632 people are currently in quarantine at military-run centres.
A total of 191,507 PCR tests have been carried out so far, with 1,120 tests conducted yesterday. (Colombo/Aug19/2020)
