Two opposition MPs suspended from Sri Lanka assembly
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s parliament Friday voted to suspend two of its opposition members for misbehaving and insulting Speaker Karu Jayasuriya in early July.
MP Wimal Weerawansa was suspended for two weeks while Prasanna Ranaweera was barred from assembly sittings for four weeks.
Both members of the Joint Opposition were found to have led a rumpus in parliament on July 3 when the House discussed an allegedly inflammatory statement made by MP Vijayakala Maheswaran. (COLOMBO, Sept 21, 2018)
