UNP requests supporters to report incidents of post-election violence
The United National Party (UNP) called on its supporters who have allegedly become victims of post-election violence to report such incidents to the Sirikotha party Headquarters immediately.
Issuing a statement this morning (19), UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam noted that its supporters have experienced certain incidents of post-election violence as the new President was sworn-in.
“It is sad to hear about the unfortunate incidents of post-election violence reported from some areas. The responsible authorities have failed to maintain the peaceful and fair atmosphere we experienced after the 2015 elections,” Kariyawasam said.
The statement further said that the party is committed to safeguarding its supporters who voted for the swan symbol during the election.
“As a party, it is our duty to look after our supporters who may have suffered various unfortunate incidents,” the statement added.
Party supporters who have experienced any post-election violence have been requested to contact the UNP Headquarters via 011- 2889378 and 077- 9215299.
