UNP to go ahead with new alliance; Sajith’s name proposed as Secretary
The United National Party (UNP)’s Working Committee unanimously agreed to establish the proposed Democratic National Front (DNF) alliance in the run-up to the upcoming presidential election.
State Minister Harsha de Silva tweeted, however, that an agreement has yet to be made on the alliance’s constitution. No official launch date for the DNF has been announced yet, and the UNP Working Committee will reconvene once the leaders of the constituent parties have agreed on the proposed amendments, he said.
A Temple Trees source told RepublicNext that Minister Sajith Premadasa’s name was proposed at the meeting as Secretary to the new alliance. It is not clear at the time of writing whether the proposal was seconded. A document shared by Minister de Silva in his tweet also has a handwritten note that emphasises the need to have the Secretary be of the UNP.
