ECONOMYNEXT – The beleaguered United National Party is yet to decide who will fill the single National List seat it won at the last Parliamentary General election, a party spokesman said today.

At a meeting held at Sirikotha of its party seniors today some of the members had requested the Party Leader former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to take the National List seat but he had declined, the spokesman told reporters.

“The Leader said that a person who is already on the National List or another candidate should be appointed,” he added.

He also said that Party General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam had offered his resignation but he had been asked to stay on.

The UNP was trashed in the last Parliamentary elections failing to win a single seat electorally, the biggest defeat it ever suffered in its storied history.
