US firms want more policy consistency in Sri Lanka
ECONOMYNEXT – American companies are keen to invest in Sri Lanka but want more policy consistency and economic reforms favourable for businesses to operate in, the United States Ambassador Atul Keshap said.
“American companies have told me they want to see more economic policy consistency in Sri Lanka,” he told the opening of the US trade fair in Colombo.
US firms have indicated they prefer to see more stable fiscal policies and want the government to pursue reforms that would make the island a more attractive place for investment, Keshap said.
“American companies are sitting on hundreds of billions of dollars they want to invest and are looking for a safe place to invest in.”
Keshap said there was a “ new and tremendous opportunity” for business ties between Sri Lanka and the US now.
“We can do a lot to expand our bilateral trade and economic relationship,” he said.
Sri Lankan people had made clear this year that they want to “leave aside policies of the past and build a unified future and make it easier for business to operate,” Keshap said.
