US re-issues travel warning for Sri Lanka
The United States has reissued its “Exercise Increased Caution” Travel Advisory for Sri Lanka “in view of the upcoming holidays,” a notice to US citizens a notice posted on the Embassy webpage said.
The Advisory was first posted in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday attacks that killed hundreds at three Churches and three Five Star Hotels by Muslim extremists.
The Advisory says “Terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets, shopping malls, government facilities, hotels, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, parks, major sporting and cultural events, educational institutions, airports, hospitals, and other public areas.”
It advises travellers to be aware of your surroundings when travelling to tourist locations and crowded public venues, follow the instructions of local authorities and monitor local media for breaking events and adjust your plans based on new information.
