ECONOMYNEXT – Vietnam’s new ambassador to Colombo has met Sri Lanka Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to discuss strengthening economic and political ties.
Minister Gunawardena there was potential to strengthen links in agriculture, fisheries, science and technology and defence as well as culture and education.
Vietnam had recently offered to share the country’s experience in organic fertilizer with Sri Lanka.
Ambassador Thanh Truc said in the 51st year of diplomatic relations political relations could be rejuvenated through an established parliamentary friendship group.
The foreign ministry said that historical records told that Buddhism was introduced to South Vietnam in the 17th century and it is believed that Sri Lankan priests contributed to the establishment of Theravada Buddhism in Southern Vietnam. (Colombo/July20/2021)
