We wouldn’t mind getting President’s support – UNP MP
UNP Parliamentarian Wijepala Hettiarachchi said that UNP would not mind getting the support of President Sirisena for the upcoming presidential election if he is willing to join them and correct his mistakes and shortcomings.
“There are no permanent friends or enemies in politics,” he added.
Speaking to the media this morning (2 Sept) at Temple Trees, the Galle district MP said if Mahinda Rajapaksa can form governments with Karuna Amman and Pillayan who killed thousands of people and Buddhist monks during the war there would be no problems in getting the support of the President.
Last night the UNP presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa along with Kabir Hashim the Chairman of UNP and General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawsam met President Maithripala Sirisena for discussions about the presidential election.
Hettiarachchi said that now since the United National Front (UNF) had decided to go on a new journey President Sirisena can now join that journey.
He also said that even during the constitutional crisis it was proved by the courts what the president did was wrong and even his party knew it was wrong.
And then he went onto say if the President can work while accepting his mistakes then there would be no problem for Sajith Premadasa and UNF in getting his knowledge, understanding and work together with his policies to develop the country.
