Welikada chief jailor murder: Second suspect nabbed
A second person suspected of aiding and abetting in the murder of the chief jailor at the Welikada Prison Training School was arrested in Hikkaduwa yesterday (22 August).
On 3 August, Chief Jailor Thilina Ruwan Thihara was shot at, at the Kuleegoda Junction in Ambalangoda. He later succumbed to his injuries upon being admitted to the Balapitiya Base Hospital.
Ambalangoda Police said the 25-year-old suspect is a resident of Pannila, Hikkaduwa and will be produced before the Balapitiya Magistrate’s Court today (22).
The first suspect, a 27-year-old from Thiranagama, Hikkaduwa, was arrested in Ambalangoda on the 13 August.
Ambalangoda Police recovered 63 live ammunition rounds used for the T-56 rifle hidden in the suspect’s residence. Upon further interrogation, 15 SIM cards were also recovered.
Ambalangoda police is carrying out further investigations.
