ECONOMYNEXT – National Socialists more commonly known as Nazis were among the worst nationalist movements in Europe. Nationalism spread strongly in Europe as majority communities in regions that earlier belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire built nation-states on linguistic and ethno-religions lines. They used the the popular vote (illiberal democracy) to oppress people that fell outside the defined polity of the nationalists.
The Nazi’s generally oppressed Jews, Gypsies and also indicated that Slavs were inferior. During the late 19th century nationalism also spread to other areas of the world, including the British Empire, defeating liberalism and ending the feudal indifference to subjects of different races and languages.
