Young Lankan Housemaid allegedly tortured to death in Kuwait
ECONOMYNEXT – The body of a 31-year old Sri Lankan maid who has allegedly been tortured to death in Kuwait is to be repatriated to Sri Lanka officials of the Ministry of Foreign Relations said.
The young woman died in the early hours of Thursday morning at the Amiri Hospital in Kuwait, these officials said.
The local Security Officials in Kuwait are investigating as the housemaid was brought to the hospital in critical condition with traces of burns, cuts and wounds on her body, Arab Times reported.
She was admitted to Intensive Care but did not survive.
The dead woman’s sponsor and his wife are being questioned, the newspaper reported.
It added that the police are probing as to whether more people are involved in the alleged torture of this woman.
Her remains have been handed over for a forensic examination to determine the circumstances of what happened.
Her husband has been contacted by the Ministry of Foreign Relations and he has consented for the remains to be sent home after the Forensic examination is over, officials said. (Colombo September 12, 2020)
