Yvette Fernando, Dhammika Nanayakkara appointed Sri Lanka central bank Deputy Governors

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s Central Bank said T M J Y P Fernando and N W G R D Nanayakkara have been appointed Deputy Governors with effect from December 14, 2020.

Fernando was earlier Assistant Governor in charge on bank supervision, currency, foreign exchange and the Employees Provident Fund and has over 30 years experience in the bank. She had been the Director of Bank Supervision and the Controller of Exchange.

She is also an ex-officio member of the Financial System Stability Committee, Inter Regulatory Institutions Council and National Payments Council of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

She is the Vice Chairperson of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka.

She has represented the Central Bank as a Director of Credit Information Bureau of Sri Lanka (CRIB), National Gem and Jewellery Authority, Golden Key Credit Card Company Limited, GK Hospitals Limited, Jetwing Symphony Limited and as a member of the Committee to review the code of corporate governance – Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, Sub-committee on Investment for negotiation of Free Trade Agreements and South East Asian Central Banks (SEACEN) advisory committee on Training.

She holds a Masters degree in Financial Economics from the University of Colombo and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

Nanayakkara’s was earlier the Assistant Governor in-charge of Public Debt, Regional Development, Financial Consumer Relations, and Staff Services Management Departments of the Central Bank.

He has over 27 years of experience at the Central Bank in Supervision and Regulation of Banks, Foreign Reserves Management and International Operations, Domestic Operations, Macroprudential Surveillance, and Public Debt Management.

He holds a Master of Science degree in Finance from the American University, Washington DC and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

He is a Fellow member of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (FCMA), Associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ACA) and a Certified Financial Services Auditor of the Institute of Internal Auditors of USA (CFSA). (Colombo/Dec17/2020)
