ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka recorded 11 deaths including that of a one-and-a-half-year-old infant due to traffic accidents on Sinhala and Tamil new year’s day yesterday, police said.
The 11 fatalities were the result of 10 separate accidents, eight of which involved motorbikes.
Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said 121 traffic accidents were reported in total yesterday including 12 accidents on the southern expressway. Seventy-four people were injured in the accidents, he said.
Meanwhile, 758 were arrested for drunk driving during a 24-hour period that ended this morning, Rohana added. (Colombo/Apr15/2021)
