AG directs CID to name intel officer Lalith Rajapaksa a suspect in Keith Noyahr case
Attorney General Dappula De Livera has directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to name Army Intelligence officer Corporal Lalith Rajapaksa as a suspect in the abduction and attempted murder of journalist Keith Noyahr.
The AG yesterday instructed the CID to record a statement from Rajapaksa in connection with the case.
Noyahr, a senior journalist at The Nation weekend newspaper at the time, was abducted and assaulted by a group of men who had arrived in a white van on the night of 22 May 2008.
The Attorney General had said that a considerable amount of evidence has been collected linking the suspect to the incident, police told RepublicNext.
Rajapaksa was arrested by the CID over the assault of editor Upali Tennakoon in 2009 earlier this week (8 July).
