All buses and trains to and from Western Province suspended
ECONOMYNEXT- All train and bus services within the Western Province, as well as connections to the rest of the country, will be suspended when the curfew is imposed tonight officials said.
Exceptions will be made only for Health Workers, Advanced Level students and teachers.
General Manager of Railways Dilantha Fernando told EconomyNext that his department will suspend all trains travelling within and out of the Western Province except for the train services provided only for the students appearing for the Advanced Level Examination and teachers who are invigilating.
Four trains will operate from the four main lines in the morning and back in the evening carrying only the A/L students and teachers, Fernando said.
“Four trains will operate from Rambukkana, Chilaw, Homagama and Matara to Colombo Fort,” he said.
Further, he said that the decision whether or not resume train services will be taken on Sunday, November 1 depending on whether the curfew will be lifted on Monday.
Moreover, Deputy General Manager (Operations) of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) Rohana Tudor told EN that SLTB will suspend all the buses within the district and long distances buses travelling from the province.
He said special bus services will be provided to health officials, certain state office staff, A/L students and teachers.
Yesterday, Army Commander Lt Gen Shavendra Silva said that quarantine curfew will be imposed in the entire Western Province from midnight tonight until 5 am Monday (November 02) in an effort to contain COVID-19 that’s spreading “faster than before”. (Colombo, October 29, 2020)
