Alleged Kasippu dealer who attacked Inspector in remand
ECONOMYNEXT- A man who allegedly assaulted a police officer at the Wariyapola Police Station on Sunday 19 April has been remanded, police headquarters said.
On Sunday (19), a Police Inspector had informed the OIC of the Wariyapola police station about a threatening telephone call he received from an alleged peddler of moonshine (kasippu) residing at Pothuwewa, Wariyapola.
Thereafter the OIC has asked the alleged peddler who had threatened the Police Inspector to the police station to give a warning.
On that occasion, a person who had come in with the racketeer has again threatened the police officer at the premises and pushed him and police say the inspector’s head had banged on a wall.
The man was arrested immediately following the incident.
The Police Inspector is currently receiving treatment at the Nikaweratiya Hospital
The suspect was admitted to the Kurunegala hospital for a blood-alcohol check.
The suspect was remanded till April 29 by the Kurunegala Magistrate after submissions were made before the courts by the Wariyapola police.
