Anglican Bishop calls for unity
Colombo Bishop (Church of Ceylon) Rev. Diloraj Canagasbey says that all leaders, including civil society leaders, should come together to overcome ethnic, religious and ideological divisions and rebuild what he called a shattered nation.
Addressing a press conference yesterday (07), the Bishop said that, for too long, the politicians have put their own interests above the welfare of the country. The Anglican Bishop requested politicians not to use the current situation for political advantage.
“This sad occasion is not an opportunity for the politicians to prepare the groundwork for their next vote winning campaign,” the Bishop said.
Rev. Canagasbey stressed on the need for educating the young generation on the importance of accepting others, essential to build a harmonious society.
The Bishop further urged the public not to demonise the entire Muslim community for the sins of ‘warped minds’.
