ECONOMYNEXT – Days after an online sex-trafficking ring was busted in Sri Lanka that had victimised a 15-year-old girl, police have arrested five suspects including the victim’s father for sexually abusing another teenage girl.
Police spokesman Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) Ajith Rohana said Thursday (15) that among the suspects taken into custody is a woman who had aided and abetted the crime that took place in Nawalapitiya.
According to Rohana, investigations have revealed that a total of 10 people had abused the 13-year-old victim.
“Investigations are underway to arrest six other suspects who are currently absconding,” he said.
The five suspects were remanded after they were produced in the Nawalapitiya Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (14).
In the online trafficking case, Rohana said, the father of the 15-year-old girl was also found to have sexually molested the victim.
A total of 41 suspects including the girl’s mother have been arrested in connection with that incident. (Colombo/July15/2021)
