Army commander requests parents to send children to school
Army Commander Lt. Gen. Mahesh Senanayake yesterday (20) requested all parents to send their children to school starting today as security in the country has been ensured.
Issuing a special statement, Senanayake said that providing security to schools is a high priority for the police and the security forces.
“Despite the security measures in place for students when the schools reopened, many parents, choosing to believe unconfirmed stories, various rumours and gossip, have been reluctant to send in their children to schools. At this juncture, I emphasise that since members of the Armed Forces and the Police on priority basis have taken all necessary steps to ensure security arrangements for all schools, parents should now send their children to schools without fear,” he said.
The Army Chief further noted that the operations conducted to apprehend the terrorists involved in the terrorist attacks are successfully underway, “marking progress”.
