Army will not hesitate to use force if violence continues – Commander
Army Commander Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake says that the armed forces would not hesitate to use minimum or maximum force to stem any violence.
Issuing a statement yesterday (13), Senanayake said that the army will take strict action to apprehend, arrest or even open fire on those who fail to abide by the law and destroy property.
“There had been incidents where some youth were involved in damaging and destroying property. We will take strict action to apprehend, arrest or even to fire and use a minimum or maximum powers given under emergency regulations” Senanayake said.
The Commander further said the armed forces will ensure that the country will not return to violence, including the violence of radicalisation and terrorists.
Senanayake requests the youth of the country to not get involved in violent activities as the armed forces are ready to use their powers.
