ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s Department of Meteorology issued warnings to the navy and the country’s fishing communities to not to venture out to the East Central Bay of Bengal from May 21 until further notice due to formation of a low pressure region.
The Met Department said in a statement the situation will last for 72 hours from May 22.
“The low pressure area is very likely to form over north Andaman Sea and the adjoining East-central Bay of Bengal around May 22, 2021,” the department said.
It is very likely to intensify gradually into a cyclonic storm over the subsequent 72 hours, it added.
The department said anyone in the aforementioned sea areas (13N-20N, 85E-100E) are advised to return to coasts or relocate to safer areas. (Colombo/May20/2021)
