Banker Chandani Werapitiya appointed Director General of Sri Lanka tourism regulator
ECONOMYNEXT- Banking professional Chandani Werapitiya has been appointed the new director general of the state-tourism regulator, the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), an official statement said.
Werapitiya’s aim is to make SLTDA the best-performing state-body focusing on national interest, the statement said.
She replaces tourism veteran Upali Ratnayake, who stepped down last week.
Werapitiya has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Management, last served as Senior Deputy General Manager of People’s Bank, and Head of Corporate and International Banking before that.
She was also an alternate Board Director at the Institute of Bankers’ Sri Lanka.
A lecturer and a speaker at international forums with over 32 years of professional experience, Werapitiya has in the past helped bring Asian Development Bank and World Bank funding lines and grants to Sri Lanka.
She has experience in committees in sustainable energy, petroleum, fertilizer, and water and road development projects as well. (Colombo/Dec18/2019)
