ECONOMYNEXT – The Bribery Commission has filed charges against former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake for allegedly accepting an apartment from Perpetual Treasuries Arjun Aloysius in the Colombo High Court.
The Director-General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption alleged that Karunanayake had committed a punishable offence under Section 19 (c) of the Bribery Commission Act by soliciting and accepting a gratification being a public servant between February 12, 2016 and September 30, 2016.
In July 2017 the Presidential Commission of Inquiry probing the alleged Bonds Scam heard that Karunanayake and his family leased out a penthouse at Monarch Residencies for eight months with the monthly lease rental of Rs.1.45 million being paid by Aloysius.
Construction Company Director Anika Wijesuriya said she rented out the apartment to Aloysius which Karunanayake and his family occupied while their house was under renovation. (Colombo, September 22, 2020)
