Capital Trust launches Taxiya after acquiring ride hailing firm
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka-based Capital Trust Holdings said it is launching a ride-hailing app branded Taxiya, after acquiring an existing firm, which will also expand into two wheeler taxis.
Taxiya will be run by Capital Trust Mobility Solutions (Pvt) Ltd.
"A two-wheeler (motorbike) service will be offered for the first time in the country, to navigate congested traffic situations, particularly at peak times," the firm said.
Motorbike taxis are popular in congested Asian nations like Vietnam (xe ôm) and also Bangkok.
"With over 1.1 million three wheelers, over 4.0 million motorcycles, over 0.7 million four-wheel vehicles in Sri Lanka and less than 50,000 active vehicles with Apps on a daily basis, there is immense room for expansion…," Capital Trust Chairman Tushan Wickramasinghe said in a statement.
The firm offers a corporate transport booking system, vacation planning, and airports transfers.
