ECONOMYNEXT- Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith attending the 152nd annual feast of St Sebastian’s Church in Katuwapitya church, yesterday, said that he is not afraid to die and that no force whatsoever can silence him.
The church is the scene of the biggest carnage inflicted by extremists on Easter Sunday. The Cardinal has been outspoken that he is unsatisfied with the probes into the Easter attacks.
Ranjith said that people should have the courage to say it’s wrong when it’s wrong and get used to saying it’s right when it’s right.
“It is not important to which party, religion or race the individual who does the right or wrong thing belongs to but doing the right thing is what’s important,” he said.
He added that as a nation and country the conscience of the people is gradually dying off and that they are stuck inside certain identities.
“We have been working to turn the truth into lies, by shouting out loud truth cannot be turned to lies. The truth is the truth and a lie is a lie,” Cardinal said.
Further, he said that Christian leadership should talk courageously without any fear and as the Archbishop that is what he has been doing since the Easter attack.
“Because that is my responsibility and I cannot escape from it. I know many are scolding me through Facebook pages when things suddenly change but that’s okay, St Sebastian did not fear death, Your Archbishop is also not afraid of death. I will stand for you, I should speak up for your rights. So no force whatsoever can silence me,” he added.
Moreover, he said that everyone should stand against the destruction of public resources of the country. (Colombo/Jan21/2021)
