Cardinal’s letter warning of further attacks authentic
A letter doing the rounds on social media purportedly signed by Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith warning of an impending attack on a Catholic church this weekend has been confirmed to be authentic.
A spokesperson for the Archbishop’s House told RepublicNext that the letter leaked to social media this week was accurate.
In the letter presumably intended to churchgoers in general – (addressed to “dear brothers and sisters”) – the Cardinal speaks of a “trusted foreign source” of information which had warned of planned attacks on a prominent church and an apostolic centre over the weekend.
The two unnamed institutes will be closed in the wake of this fresh threat, he said, adding that mass at all other churches will also be cancelled this week. Catholic schools, too, will remain closed until further notice.
