China firm to study water supply options for Hambantota port, industrial zone
ECONOMYNEXT – China Heavy Machinery Corporation (CHMC) has been tasked with studying the water and sewerage requirement for Sri Lanka’s Hambantota and adjacent industrial zone, and coming up with options to build it.
The Ministry of City Planning and Water Supply will follow the Swiss Challenge process to find the party to implement the project.
The cabinet of ministers had given the nod for CHMC to conduct a feasibility study of the water requirement and sewerage facilities for the next 5-20 years for the Hambantota port and industrial zone.
It also expected to evaluate the options to build the infrastructure, including an engineering procurement contract to build, operate and transfer, or other public private partnerships.
The study will be carried out at the cost of the Chinese firm.
