CID questions MP Eran over statements made about Easter attacks
ECONOMYNEXT – Opposition Member of Parliament, former Minister Eran Wickremeratne is claiming that he was summoned to the Criminal Investigation Department and questioned today over statements he had made at a recent press conference.
Wickremeratne told EconomyNext that he was questioned for four hours today over comments he had made over the need for persons accused of crimes to be available to testify in courts in future hearings.
EconomyNext called the police media division to cross-check this information and was provided a number to call the media spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana who did not respond to repeated calls.
Wickremeratne said he was questioned by CID detectives about his statement particularly with regard to the spouse of the leader of the terrorist group that killed some 270 people in churches and hotels on Easter Sunday last year.
The former Minister had said in a press conference that he was concerned as the alleged drug kingpin popularly known as Makandure Madush had been killed in a shootout taking with him valuable information with regard to the drug trade in the country.
He was concerned that the spouse of the terror group leader should be safeguarded as she may have clues about the mastermind behind the attacks. (Colombo November 16, 2020)
