Conditional permission granted for state-run schools to re-open

ECONOMYNEXT –  The government has granted conditional permission for schools throughout the country to re-open even if they have more than 200 students, the Ministry of Education announced today.

This applies to all government schools and the Ministry approved schools the announcement said.

The statement said that the schools must have sufficient space and facilities for students to strictly main social distancing.

The school must also ensure there are sufficient teachers and staff for re-opening, the directive said.

Necessary instructions have been sent to all regional and provincial heads of school administration the press release added. (Colombo, August 19, 2020)
