Coronavirus halts postal services in Sri Lanka’s Western province, Galle, Bati, Kuliyapitiya offices

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka Post said it is halting letter deliveries to the Western province and post offices in Galle, Batticaloa and Kuliyapitiya until further notice amid an upsurge Coronavirus but medicines would continue to be distributed.

Many customers in the areas were not accepting letters or parcels, Sri Lanka’s postal chief Ranjith Ariyarante said.

The decision was also taken to protect postmen, he said.

Post offices in the rest of the country will not accept letter for delivery to the post offices.
The central mail exchange in Colombo will also be closed for customers.

But deliveries of medicine to patients of government hospitals would continue.

Sri Lanka’s Gampaha district, parts of the capital Colombo and some areas in Kuliyapitiya are under Coronavirus curfews. (Colombo/Oct26/2020)

  1. Two signed for letters sent to BOC Metro Branch,Colombo from UK On the 23rd of Oct. and 29th of Oct. are still at the Central Mail Exchange, Colombo. many letters sent to PMG but still no response from him. Hope PMG will take some action to distribute the urgent mails.
