ECONOMYNEXT – A Sri Lanka court has remanded four officers arrested in connection with the death of a housemaid in police custody, pending an identification parade, lawyers said.
On August 25, Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekulawala had ordered the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to arrest suspects connected to the death of Rajkumari.
Rajkumari was taken in by police on a complaint by Sudharma Neththikumara, a businesswoman, who alleged theft while being in her employ.
On 18 September an identification parade is to be held at the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, lawyers said.
Senaka Perera, Prabodha Ratnayake, Thambiah Jeyaratnarajah, Swastika Arulingam, Dhanushka Silva and Niroshan Kumara are looking after the interests of the dead woman’s husband.
Nethikimara has been named a witness for the identification parade.
Lawyers said they are planning to file a motion outlining that there is a conflict of interest in naming Neththikumara a witness to the case.(Colombo/Sep14/23)
