COVID 19 toll rises as more Navy Personnel test positive

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s COVID 19 toll continues to rise as 52 new patients were diagnosed today the government announced, bringing the total number infected since the outbreak to 1,371.

All the new patients are from the Sri Lanka Navy, a Press Release issued by the Department of Information said.

Fifty-one patients were detected at the Jaffna Quarantine centre while the other was found at another unspecified centre the release said.

The statement added that 732 patients had been discharged after being cured of the disease while 629 remain in hospital under treatment.

The release also said that 1,146 PCR tests had been conducted yesterday May 26, and 137 patients had been identified as been infected by COVID 19.

Of them 127 are Sri Lankan migrant workers who have returned from Kuwait and the rest are from the Navy, the release said. (Colombo, May 27, 2020)
