COVID UPDATE: Only one new patient reported this morning

ECONOMYNEXT-Sri Lanka has identified only one new COVID-19 patient as at 6 am this morning, National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPOC) said.

He is a returnee from the UAE, the Centre said.

With that, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 patients in the island has risen to 2,882 with 225 active cases.

With 8 patients returning home after recovering as at 6 am this morning the total recoveries have risen to 2,646.

The total recoveries from the Kandakadu cluster have increased to 468 while 161 are still undergoing treatments.

The total number of patients reported from the Kandakadu cluster remains at 629, out of which 508 are detainees, 67 staff members, 5 invited staff members, 48 close contacts and one close contact of the patient found from Welikada prison.

A total of 66 returnees have arrived at the country this morning, where 44 have arrived from Doha, 8 from Chennai, India, 10 from the UK, 3 from Japan and one from Dubai.

NOCPOC said that all the returnees were directed to quarantine centres controlled by the tri-forces upon their arrivals.

Meanwhile, a total of 4,461 people are currently in quarantine at 43 centres controlled by the tri-forces.

A total of 179,949 PCR tests have been done so far with 1,100 tests carried out yesterday. (Colombo/Aug14/2020)
