COVID Update: This week has seen 43 more patients detected mostly returnees
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s Health Services is reporting that 43 new COVID 19 cases were detected in the week from last Saturday, August 8 to today August 14.
The Epidemiological Unit of the Department of Health Services said the total number of detected cases since the outbreak on last Saturday was 2,839 and today the figure is 2,882.
Most of the patients are returnees from the Middle-East while one was a passenger onboard a flight that arrived from Japan, the National Operation Centre for the Prevention of COVID 19 said.
Just a handful of the new detections were from the still active Kandakadu cluster, it added.
The cluster from the Treatment and Rehabilitation centre has so far yielded 629 patients, which include 508 inmates. The rest are staff, visiting lecturers and their close associates.
Communities in Rajangana and Lankapura were infected by people who had visited the Kandakadu camp.
Of this number 475 people have been discharged from hospital after being cured and 154 people are still in the special treatment centre set up at Kandakadu. (Colombo, August 15, 2020)
