CPA wants Mahanayake’s speech investigated
The Centre for Policy Alternatives has written to the Acting Inspector General of Police Chandana Deepal Wickremeratna to conduct an inquiry into a sermon delivered by the Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter Ven. Warakagoda Gnanaratana Thero which it says contains hate speech.
The letter points out that in the speech the Mahanayake Thero calls for a boycott of Muslim owned businesses, that a Muslim Doctor accused of rendering Sinhala Buddhist women infertile should be stoned and says Sinhalese should unite if the Law is not applied.
The CPA says that after the Easter Sunday attacks the Muslim community in Sri Lanka has faced violence and discrimination.
The utterances of this Monk, it says is feeding the flames of this communal anger.
It also says that the sermon specifically targets the Muslim owned businesses and the Muslim doctor.
