ECONOMYNEXT – There is considerable confusion in the Colombo, Gampaha and Puttalam Districts today as the scheduled time to re-impose curfew at noon was changed to 2 PM without official intimation.

Officials at the Presidential Secretariat said reports of long line-ups at food outlets and pharmacies, in particular, had prompted the authorities to push the curfew re-imposition time back to give shoppers more time to get their necessities.

As it stands the curfew hours according to the President’s Secretariat are as follows:

– In the districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Puttalam, Mannar, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu and Jaffna the curfew is re-imposed today, Wednesday 24, at 2 PM

– The curfew in these districts will be lifted at 6 AM on Friday 27 and re-imposed at 12 noon the same day

– The curfew in the rest of the island will be lifted at 6 AM on Thursday 26 and re-imposed at noon the same day. (Colombo, March 24, 2020)
