Dozens detained for breaking quarantine curfews – Police

ECONOMYNEXT-Police have arrested 80 people for violating quarantine curfew as at 6 am this morning since the curfew was implemented last Sunday the Police Media Division said.

A wide swathe of the Gampaha area is under quarantine and police curfew after the Minuwangoda facility of the apparel manufacturer Brandix emerged as the biggest Covid 19 cluster in Sri Lanka since the pandemic began.

More than a thousand people have tested positive for the virus inside the facility and outside, shaking the complacency of the public which has been behaving as if the Covid threat is over.

Accordingly, during the 24 hour period, from 6 am yesterday to 6 am today a total of 21 people have been arrested while a vehicle was taken into police custody for violating quarantine curfew.

A total of 19 vehicles, mostly motorcycles have been taken into police custody since Sunday for violating curfew. (Colombo/Oct08/2020)
