EC instructs police to remove vehicle stickers promoting candidates

The Election Commission has instructed the police to conduct random search patrols and remove any stickers or other material displayed on vehicles promoting a presidential candidate or party in the lead-up to the upcoming polls.

Issuing a statement, the Commission said this decision was taken in response to complaints received of such material being displayed on private vehicles including buses and threewheelers violating election laws.

“Any such act is an offence under Section 74 of the Presidential Elections Act, No.15 of 1981, and therefore action should be taken forthwith to remove stickers pasted on private buses, three wheelers and other private vehicles,” the statement said.
