Eighty tons of rice unsuitable for human consumption discovered

Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) have discovered 80 000 Kgs of rice which is unsuitable for human consumption from a warehouse in Hambantota last Tuesday (28).

The haul of rice has been discovered on a tip-off received by them.

The Secretary of the Public Health Inspector’s Union (PHIU), Mahendra Balasooriya told RepublicNext that the stock of rice was to be sold to several shops in Jaffna.

Thirty eight samples of rice have been submitted to the Government Analyst’s Department to carry out further investigations, Balasooriya added.

The warehouse has been sealed following the discovery of the haul of rice.
