Enterprise Sri Lanka in Jaffna draw large crowds
ECONOMYNEXT – An exhibition to promote entrepreneurs has drawn over 300,000 visitors and there was strong interest in loans to mechanize and commercialize traditional agriculture, the finance ministry said.
The exhibition started on Saturday at Jaffna’s Mutraveli grounds Saturday.
“There were large crowds on the weekend and on Monday there were large numbers of school children,” the finance ministry said.
Under an entrepreneur development program there was interest in getting subsidized credit.
Over 2000 applicants have been referred to regional banks for Enterprise Sri Lanka credit.
There was interest in getting funds to mechanize and commercialize agriculture, the statement said.
The finance ministry had come up with a scheme for widows and ex-combatants to get credit without collateral the statement said.
Some persons were facing stigma and found it difficult to get guarantees, the statement. (Colombo/Sept10/2019)
