Facebook shares Sri Lanka COVID-19 fact sheet, announces key updates
ECONOMYNEXT – Facebook announced some key updates to its content policies as well as its family of apps today with respect to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, with a focus on Sri Lanka.
In a webinar held this morning, Public Policy Manager for Sri Lanka at Facebook Senura Abeywardena shared details on Facebook’s partnership with health organisations, communities and other key stakeholders to support the global response to the pandemic. The initiative also includes measures to curb misinformation and fake news.
Facebook’s COVID-19 Information Center, featured at the top of News Feed, includes real-time updates from global and local health authorities as well as resources about staying healthy, supporting one’s community, social distancing and preventing the spread of COVID-19, the company said in a media release.
“In-feed and top-of-feed pop-ups on Facebook and Instagram direct people to the World Health Organization (WHO), US Centre for Disease Control (CDC) or local health authorities. When people search for COVID-19 on Facebook or tap a COVID-19 related hashtag on Instagram, they’ll see a pop-up. We’re also showing the accounts of leading health organisations at the top of searches related to the virus,” the statement added.
Other measures include WHO health alerts via WhatsApp, a COVID-19 community hub on Messenger, and a Facebook group admins community site.
